Ur. 27 października 1975 w Londynie, jest brytyjską pisarką, autorką opowiadań i trzech powieści. Ukończyła Kings College w Cambridge. Jej debiutancka powieść "Białe zęby" zdobyła nagrodę Whitbread First Novel Award dla najlepszego debiutu w 2000, a następnie została zaadaptowana na mini-serial telewizyjny. Najnowsza powieść "O pięknie" - wydana w 2005 roku, została nominowana do Nagrody Bookera oraz przyniosła Zadie Smith nagrodę Orange Prize for Fiction.
